The power of European empires continues to this day to define the Western world in the global north and south. Not everything about colonization has been and is an abomination. Either way, this course provides historical education designed to disrupt the inhumane behavioral patterns that have constructed societies and systems that have caused, and continue to cause, harm. History is a beautiful thing, in victory, in defeat and even in neutrality. We believe it is essential to present historical information in a prosocial way, agreeably and kindly.

Our personal and cultural heritages are significant for us all. Much of our shared histories are riddled with conflicts and domination of one people over another. We work actively to ensure no one person feels, or any peoples feel, guilt and shame for who they are and where they come from.

This course will provide you with an understanding of:

• A history of Western European cultures and their colonial powers
• The role that religious wars played in the development of empires
• The historical European events that led to the exploration of the Atlantic
• A critical examination of the Transatlantic Slave trade
• A civil education in US history, highlighting the struggles for power and personhood
• The social, economic and cultural architectural structure of US culture
• The impact of cultural domination and oppression on both the oppressed and the oppressor
• The power of diplomacy and restorative justice
